Snapshots: May the Fourth Be With You

In Snapshots, Three Man Booth searches for images to share.

May 4th is the unofficial Star Wars Day (May the force be with you … May the fourth, get it? We explained it better before). This year is particularly eventful since the next installment in the Star Wars films will be in theaters in December. The second trailer from The Force Awakens had over 88 million views in the first 24 hours! A new record!

The trailer (and the upcoming movie) are inspiring the next generation of potential Jedi masters. Everyone wants to wield a lightsaber when they’re young, even WWE Superstars. The closet they come is a kendo stick; but, with the magic of Photoshop, Dean Ambrose wields a lightsaber with the best of them!

I Was There: WWE Axxess

Arguably, the NXT Superstar of Wrestlemania Weekend was Hideo Itami. Not only did he win the tournament to enter the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, not only did he face rival Tyler Breeze and introduce the GTS to his WWE Arsenal but he also wrestled again the next morning. He faced the formidable Solomon Crowe; the hacker of NXT that was ready to ruin Itami’s weekend.

3MB_WWEAXXESS_20150328_0045It takes more than a rear chinlock and a smirk to delay Itami. By the way, one of the interesting things about WWE Axxess is the way everything is positioned. The wrestling ring is near the back of the San Jose Convention Center, past Superstar signings, past the Elimination Chamber, past all the other attractions. But you can hear any ringside noise throughout the space. When Hideo’s music played, droves of fans sprinted to be ringside for this match. Maybe the additional fans motivated Itami in his match with Crowe. This strike certainly had some extra force behind it:

3MB_WWEAXXESS_20150328_0050as did this flying clothesline:

By then, everyone in attendance had surrounded the ring, waiting to see what Itami and Crowe would do next. Itami broke out the picture perfect hestitation corner dropkick, literally, picture perfect:

and got the victory over Solomon Crowe. With the rise of NXT, Axxess has become a place to go not only to re-live WWE’s history but to also get a glimpse into the future of Wrestlemania.

3 Count: #NXTheme – A Winner is You!

In 3 Count, Three Man Booth will Discuss Wrestling & Wrestling Related Music:
The Good, The Bad & The Cheesy

The bracket’s over but business is not done. As part of NXTheme, we asked you to submit completed brackets during the first round and predict the winner. We had a number of submissions, which took us a while to get through. Some people were close but the voting through a lot of people for a loop. There were strong pro-Charlotte and pro-Sasha Banks contingents. But the deciding match-up was the one that went into overtime: Sami Zayn versus Finn Balor.

3MB_NXT_20150327_0154If Sami Zayn had won the overtime, then Harp2012 would have won our tournament. He had Zayn beating Balor and defeating Kevin Owens in the finals.

3mb_nxtheme2015_MikeHarp_2ndBut, because of the run-off, Harp2012 came in 2nd with an impressive 25 of 31 brackets. Continue reading

I Was There: #NXTSanJose (03/27/15)

This NXT event was so important even wrestlers that were injured had to make an appearance. Everyone’s favorite, Mojo Rawley Sami Zayn, came out to address the 5,000 crazy passionate fans that sold out the SJSU Center in an hour. Zayn is one of the reasons NXT has been captivating audiences on the WWE Network. Another reason is the NXT champion, Kevin Owens, who interrupted Zayn.

3MB_NXT_20150327_0164While the audience salivated at the thought of these two rivals squaring off, cooler heads prevailed. Both Zayn and Owens are coming off injuries and surgeries. Guess we have to settle for Adrian Neville versus Finn Balor… wait…

3MB_NXT_20150327_0167This is awesome! A “Better than Mania” chant even broke out!

Adrian Neville versus Finn Balor is the right combination of spectacle and sport. Both Neville and Balor are top notch Superstars. The aerial grace of The Man That Gravity Forgot stuns crowds. And Balor’s “Monster” entrance, body painted persona that stalks to the ring, is completely captivating. It’s no wonder “Catch Your Breath” won NXTheme. And in the ring, neither wrestler disappoints. They went back and forth to the delight of the crowd until Balor was able to capitalize.

A dropkick followed by the coup de grace gave Balor the victory. At the time, we didn’t know this would be Adrian Neville’s last match. Come Monday, he would be debuting on RAW as Neville. Apparently they also forgot his first name. But NXT didn’t. No one is going to forget that night. All it took were 3 letters, chanted over and over again:
