The IWC: Zak Kinsella and Aubrey Sitterson

3MB wants to Highlight The IWC; No Not that IWC. The Illustrated Wrestling Community

For most of us, watching RAW is enough. Those 3 hours can fly or be way too long when trying to follow the on-goings of World Wrestling Entertainment. Some people Tweet RAW on top of watching; the best are members of our Twitter List, like KeepItFiveStar. But the tag team of Zak Kinsella and Aubrey Sitterson are specialists when it comes to Monday nights.

Not only does Zak tweet RAW but he also shares his artwork on Twitter during RAW. He often posts some of his sketches and commissions at that time. During one RAW in particular, Zak made card-size sketches of Superstars like, Daniel Bryan, Enzo Amore, Cesaro, Paul Heyman and Dolph Ziggler:

Snapshots: Art Barr

In Snapshots, Three Man Booth searches for images to share.

So many wrestling fans are talented artists.  Their fandom will contain references to the sport or one piece in an exhibit will be about wrestling. This year,  we’ve been fortunate enough to have two exhibits solely about wrestling. Earlier this year,  Gallery 1988 hosted Velvetmania, a tribute to the classiest sport on the classiest of fabrics: Velvet.

All of Bruce White’s portraits were created using acrylic on velvet, adding depth to each depiction of the Superstars from the 80’s and 90’s. The soft fabric serves as a contrast the rugged lifestyles that wrestlers lead. Some of the prints are still available at Gallery 1988’s site, either as prints or as the original artwork, if you ever wanted to own a one of a kind Big Boss Man painting.

Not to be outdone, the East Coast currently as an exhibit on display. In contrast to Gallery 1998’s Wrestlemania themed pun, Con Artist is hosting Starrcade, named after …. well, WCW’s Starrcade (What?!? No one was using it!):

Hightlight Reel: Team Coco Smashdown

In Highlight Reel, 3MB will look at funny and interesting wrestling videos

Wrestling has been responsible for kids breaking curfews for years. Whether it was the time Saturday Night’s Main Event came on in place of Saturday Night Live or the late night channel surfing in search of ECW, there’s been a relationship between “pro wrestling” and “late night.” It’s no surprise then that one of the biggest supporters of pro wrestling has been Conan O’Brien. On his NBC show, late night with Conan O’Brien, he would regularly have stars from the WWF on. It’s a tradition that his successor, Jimmy Fallon, continued until Fallon took over the tonight show (Only time will tell if Seth Meyers keeps the tradition alive). But just because Conan is on a new network and at an earlier time doesn’t mean he’s lost his love for wrestlers.

When the news of recent WWE downsizing broke, Conan and his team used it as an opportunity to come up with a list of terrible wrestler names / characters. Let’s face it: Donny Duct Tape, Miracle Mike, and the Rabid Rabbi were never going to become household names. But at least they were good for a laugh.
