The Good, The Bad & The Cheesy

The Sweet 16 Round of NXTheme has ended! Thanks to everyone who voted; there were a lot of tough decision to be made. Much like the March Madness tournament, the competition only gets harder as you advance. With that, onto the Elite 8 of NXTheme!

Some quick notes on the Sweet 16 Round. Sami Zayn continued his streak against tag teams, first taking out the Ascension and then The Vaudevillians. And on NXT, our bracket imitated the show: Kevin Owens versus Alex Riley AND Sasha Banks versus Alexa Bliss happened on the WWE Network and in our Tournament. And like the Network, Owens defeated Alex Riley with the aggressiveness we’ve seen him display in the ring.

Unlike the Network, Sasha Banks defeated Alexa Bliss! Maybe Alexa will have more future success in the ring; on our Bracket, Banks is pushing her opponents out the way.

Will her run continue through to the Final Four? Let’s see the brackets!

STH_Logo_2015

RAW begins with Seth Rollins and The Authority

After a mixed reaction, Seth Rollins says they chant his name but he knows they loved Randy Orton. Rollins calls Orton’s attack betrayal. Rollins says the WWE Universe doesn’t understand what it means to be betrayed because you have to be a somebody and an important person. Rollins brags that he made it out of Iowa and made something out of his life.

After a loud RKO chant, Seth Rollins says he trusted and vouched for Randy Orton, calling him a friend and family member, but says Orton betrayed him.

Seth Rollins brings up what he did to The Shield, saying it was nothing like he did to The Shield and what he did was a business decision made to secure his future. Rollins says what Orton did was in cold blood and he did it without the tiniest trace of human decency or empathy.

If I Could Be Serious for a Minute: R-Truth

In If I Could Be Serious for a Minute, we will discuss wrestling with no jokes, no memes.
Gloves off.

There’s been so much concern on this Road to Wrestlemania. Is Roman Reigns ready? Will Brock Lesnar show up? Is Brock leaving for UFC? Can the Undertaker go? Can Sting go? What are they doing with [insert name]? Our concern isn’t with any of that. At least, not right now. Our concern is with the Intercontinental Championship Ladder match. We’re not worried that it’s a step down for Daniel Bryan. If we could be serious for a minute,

we have a problem with R-Truth.

3MB_WWEMSG_20150227_0114Listen, it’s no secret that we’re not fans of R-Truth’s. He was the first recipient of  Boo This Man and, if you’ve read a RAW Recap, you’ve seen our tweets when he appears. His matches are our “bathroom breaks” at live shows and, if we didn’t have to go, we’ve booed as loudly as possible. But those are issues we have with R-Truth in general, which we’ll get into. Specifically, on this Road to Wrestlemania, our problem is that R-Truth has not – at any point – been made to look like he is on the same level as the other competitors in this match. He hasn’t been competing in matches on RAW or Smackdown like the other wrestlers. And, listen, maybe R-Truth is hurt and this is the WWE’s way of covering it up. But, from the photo above, we saw him wrestle Fandango in a match, an albeit brief match, at Hulk Hogan Appreciation Night; this was about the same time that he starting appearing on commentary.

Yeah, this has not been a success.

3 Count: NXTheme 2015

The Good, The Bad & The Cheesy

In sports, the month of March is known as March Madness. America gets swept up in  NCAA Basketball as future NBA Superstars compete in a 64 team single elimination tournament. Offices around the United States are consumed with the idea of successfully (correctly) picking the winning teams, whittling done the 64 to the 1 championship team. Well, we like wrestling. Wrestling doesn’t have a 64 bracket elimination tournament.
So… we made one!

The closest thing the WWE has to the NCAA is NXT, their developmental promotion in Orlando, Florida. Several Superstars have gone on from there to join the main roster, proving themselves on the larger stage. But there’s still a tremendous amount of talent on display at Full Sail University every Wednesday on the WWE Network for an undisclosed price. The only fair way to have these budding Superstars compete is via the universal signifier of all wrestlers: their theme music! We chose 32 NXT Superstars and NXT Alumni to compete in this tournament. Fun Fact: we originally decided to limit this to a Sweet 16 tournament but that would not have included Alexa Bliss. Who could say no to this face?

Not us! Also, CJ Parker didn’t make the initial Sweet 16; we didn’t care so much but he likes to protest things and we didn’t want to deal with it. We let him in too. You’re welcome, Earth!

But, we’re not picking the winner. You are!
