The Meme Event: Street Commentator Miz

In The Meme Event, 3MB shares wrestling inspired Memes.

On this week’s RAW, Jerry Lawler was attacked by CM Punk leaving him unable to do commentary. Michael Cole was going to do commentary alone until The Miz showed up and joined him at the announce table for the remainder of the show. It was Miz’s first time in the WWE doing commentary and we think he did well, but he said one thing that really said stood out. No, it wasn’t the argument with Layla. During the Sheamus/Jack Swagger match. Sheamus applied the Texas Cloverleaf (Get it? Because he’s Irish?) to Jack Swagger. While Swagger was writhing in pain, The Miz, in the heat of the moment screams out…
Although, The Miz has proven his street cred time and time again, we never expected him to throw slang into commentary. That being said, 3MB Presents our latest Meme: Street Commentator Miz.
Street Commentator Miz comes in two forms. One is Miz commentating on moves using street slang. The other, is Miz commentating in general using slang.
We’ll be doling out more of these memes on our Facebook and Tumblr pages so feel free to check them out there. Miz? Thank you for the AWEEEEEEEEEEEEESOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEE inspiration for this meme, son!

Cheap Pop: Wrestling’s Music Inspired Moments

In Cheap Pop, Three Man Booth Discuss Random Topics
with a Slight Historical Bend

Tonight, MTV will host their 28th Annual Video Music Awards. The VMAs pretty much have the same rules as WCW’s World War 3: Stick as many characters as you can in one place and hope for the best. In the past, the hosts, guests and performers at the VMAs have surprised the millions (And millions) of viewers with their unpredictability. Remember when Fiona Apple dropped a Pipebomb? Remember when Lil’ Mama did a run-in on Jay-Z and Alicia Keys? Remember when Britney and Madonna … shook hands? Well, wrestling’s is very similar. Remember when Mr. Perfect hated rap then created the perfect country song about it? It’s True!

Here’s a look at some of the musical-inspired acts in wrestling. Some of them are even inspired from incidents at the VMAs.

John Cena Channels His Inner Slim Shady

John Cena and Eminem have a lot in common. Besides rapping, acting and and you know….being controversial, both Cena and Eminem love to make an entrance. In 2000, Eminem performed his hit single, “The Real Slim Shady” at the VMAs, marching into Radio City Music Hall with hundreds of Eminem clones. In 2009, John Cena decided to emulate this entrance before match with The Big Show and Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 25.

While Eminem’s performance was greeted with praise, Cena’s performance elicited a sizable amount of boos (If you get this reference, Oliver Copp thanks you.)

Lance Storm Crashes 3 Count’s Performance

Remember 3 Count? I do! Fun Fact: I once stood outside TRL in Times Square hoping for them to make an appearance, but they never showed. Instead, I ended up seeing O-Town. Thanks 3 Count…

TRL aside, 3 Count (Zack Ryder’s second favorite boyband,) brought us great hits like “Can’t Get You Out Of My Heart.” And “Sing Along With 3 Count.” However, not everyone was a fan. One person in particular was Lance Storm who made his WCW debut by attacking the trio as they were about to perform.

https://dailymotion.com/video/x2o5zn

Lance Storm’s attack on 3 Count proved 2 things. One, he really hates boybands. And Two, he can show some personality when he really wants to!

Ric Flair Hates Fozzy

In 2002, Fozzy made their first appearance on RAW performing their song, “To Kill A Stranger.” Fozzy frontman, Chris Jericho was taken back by the negative reaction and decided to perform an encore much to the displeasure of the WWE Fans (We weren’t a universe until 2008.) Before Jericho could get a note in, he was attacked by the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, who he attacked earlier in the evening. Flair’s agenda was to literally try and make those punk kids Fozzy “turn down that racket.” Rather than show the full clip, we prefer the Everybody Hates Chris version by ReyFearsPsychosis.

It’s no surprised that Ric Flair destroyed Fozzy’s set. As we learned 10 years later, Flair is clearly more of a hip-hop guy.

Jillian Hall Covers Beyonce’s Single Ladies

From 2007-2010, Jillian Hall sang her heart out on WWE TV. She had many “memorable” performances, but this one sticks out to me because one, this was the first time she tried performing R & B. And two, her “backup dancers” Beth Phoenix and Katie Lea steal the show.

It’s a shame these three didn’t do more together. They could’ve been the next Destiny’s Child … Or Diversity 5.

OH, YOU DIDN’T KNOW?

C’mon. You know the words: Spend my days workin’ hard on the go / But the hands on the clock keep spinning too slow / ‘Cause I can’t wait to be alone with my baby tonight! This country gem was jammed down our throats back in ’95 and might subconsciously be the reason I don’t like country music today. With My Baby Tonight was supposed to be J-E-Double F (Hahaha!) J-A-Double R-E! … Double T’s hit single. He even “performed” it live at WWF In Your House 2: The Lumberjacks (And you thought Over The Limit was a bad name.) Or so we thought….

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdb3q1_the-real-double-j-jesse-james-revel_sport

In 1996, Jeff Jarrett’s protege, The Roadie A.K.A The Road Dogg Jesse James, A.K.A The guy on WWE’s “Are You Serious?,” returned to the WWF, admitted that Jarrett was a fraud and that he was the real Double J.

This lead to the Jesse James performing this song every single night he wrestled, even when there were technical difficulties. The country singer gimmick died out when The Real Double J realized he was more of an outlaw than a country singer.

And last but not least…

Let’s Have A Toast For The …

We all know and love this one. In 2009, Kanye West became the biggest heel in music after he interrupted the sympathetic babyface, Taylor Swift’s VMA victory, proclaiming that Beyonce had “one of the best videos of all time.” A few months later, the WWE decided to parody this incident when Maria won a Slammy for “Diva Of The Year” and was interrupted by the WWE’s answer to Kanye West, Batista.

I didn’t like much about Batista, but I loved this parody. Maria’s and Batista’s performance were great. Plus, Batista’s “Homer Simpson-esque” pink shirt was just the icing on the cake. Mmmm…cake.

Snapshots: Triple H retires…his hair?

In Snapshots, Three Man Booth searches for images to share
.

Triple H knows how to get people talking. Last week, The Game may or may not have retired after delivering an emotional speech two weeks after his loss to Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. This was one of the last parting images we had of Triple H on RAW.

While many thought this would be the end of Triple H (for a while,) WWE.com and TMZ proved us wrong. The Game resurfaced one week later with a new attitude and a new look!

Wrestling fans all over the were surprised by the new look. And while Triple H is still the same guy he always was, we at 3MB think that a little warning would have been nice. Something like…

Ah, well.  We all gotta grow up sometime, right?

I Have ‘Til Five: Labor Day Superstars

In I Have Til 5, 3MB will Pick a Topic and Discuss the 5 Finer Points of it

Labor Day is a day set aside to celebrate the social and economic contributions of workers. Wrestlers have certainly contributed to economy and social (media) but even still there’s a rarer category of wrestler: the double duty wrestler. Some Superstars have taken their original profession from the outside world into a wrestling ring, often with no time to change uniforms.

For example, Irwin R. Schyster barely had time to take off his glasses before a match, let alone his suspenders, ties and white button down t-shirt. In financial terms, these were liabilities: as distracting as his attire was to to his opponent, they were also easy ways to grab him, figuratively and literally stopping the IRS, a the delight of many fans. But taking the Taxman out of the cubicle won’t stop the tax tips from coming. Despite the tips, the unfortunate first name of Irwin, and his association with the most disliked government agency in existence, it’s remarkable that Irwin R. Schyster is a former 3-Time Tag Team Champion with, fittingly The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase.

There are several more choices. Check them out after the Jump

1. Duke “The Dumpster” Droese

The only thing you’d expect find in Mt. Trashmore, Florida is Majory the Trash Heap from Fraggle Rock. But the WWF found Duke “The Dumpster” Droese, the garbage man hopped off the back of the garbage truck and straight to the ring, with garbage can in tow. The Sanitation Industry’s PR was in overdrive in the 90’s: They had Droese in the WWF and Roc, the Charles S. Dutton sitcom about a “Garbage Collector.” Neither Roc nor Droese lasted long but were memorable nonetheless: The Duke gave Hunter Hearst Helmsley (now Triple H, COO of the WWE) his first loss. Droese also defeated Hunter via disqualification at the 1996 Royal Rumble. The referees invoked the “Replay Rule,” a football condition, to catch Hunter’s cheating. Not too shabby, Trash Man.

2. Repo Man

Lets make one thing clear: Love him or Hate Him, his theme was awesome. Repo had the mannerisms to make you hate him: he wore a makeshift black mask that looks like it was cut from an old sweatshirt. It disguised nothing. He also crept around, like a rat and completed the similarities with a sniveling squeaky heckle of a laugh. Connor O’Brien should have been studying Repo’s tape. Repo Man is clearly a character that should have come back in recent years in one of two ways: he should have been the one taking away MVP’s entrance staging and pyrotechnics during that storyline. he should be the host of Spike TV’s Repo Games, leading into TNA Wrestling every week. Instead, all we get is Kane, ironically, repossessing Repo’s hook and Dakota Darsow.

3. T.L. Hopper

Image Courtesy of The Bleacher Report

If you thought The Garbage Man and the Repo Man were thankless jobs, then you missed the era of T.L. Hopper, the WWF’s plumber. Yep, a Plumber. Between a stained White Tank Top and Plumber’s Crack, there wasn’t much else that made you think “Plumber,” especially if you grew up with your mental image of a Plumber being a mustachioed Italian in overalls. Maybe that’s why the WWF gave him a plumber named Betsy that he would press over the faces of his defeated opponents. Maybe that’s why his the initials T.L. stood for “Toilet Lid.” Maybe that’s why T.L. Hopper’s Theme Song consisted a toilet being flushed repeatedly. Yep, all of this happened.

4. Issac Yankem, D.D.S.

Adults fear the IRS in the same way that children fear the Dentists: both have the ability to leave you in a huddled mess, weeping. Much like Irwin R. Schyster, Dr. Isaac Yankem, D.D.S. (unaccredited) was immediately met with a chrous of boos. It didn’t help that he came to the WWE recommended by Jerry The King Lawler – then feuding with Bret “the Hitman” Hart. It definitely didn’t help that Yankem is a lumbering near 7 foot monster, decked in a white dentist’s coat, conjuring up images of the dentist looming over you while you’re strapped in that chair, at their mercy. Isaac Yankem didn’t last for a very long time, probably due to the limitations of a white wardrob. Give him a Red Bodysuit, some long hair and possibly a mask and you may have the next level of Monster.

5. The Big Bossman and The Mountie

This one a two-fer. Since law and order in the World Wrestling Federation is … “fluid,” not one but two men tried to become the embodiment of Justice: The Big Bossman and The Mountie. Unfortunately, they were both corrupted upon arrival. The Bossman eventually redeemed himself, living up to his theme music and Policeman’s … sash. His gear – used in post-match assaults – stopped being symbols of brutality. Instead, the twirl of the nightstick became for misdirection for a spinning right hook. The Mountie, conversely, never upheld the law, the exact opposite of his theme’s lyrics. Armed with a Cattle Prod, the Mountie ran about the WWF shocking … well, everybody, when he won the Intercontinental Championship.  Inevitably, these two “law enforcers” clashed in a dispute over US versus Canada jurisdiction, culminating with the Mountie spending a night in a New York City jail.
