Snapshots: Main Squeeze Orchestra

This past Saturday, the Gotham Girls Roller Derby Championships took place between the Manhattan Mayhem and the Queens of Pain. This roller derby experience was very much like a independent wrestling show, taking place in a gym and having bleachers filled with friends, families and roller derby enthusiasts. The skaters and, even the referees have derby names like Annie Frankenstein and William Skatespeare, respectively. My personal favorite is number 12 on the Manhattan Mayhem: Bruizin’ Brody, named (hopefully) after Bruiser Brody:

The championship was the most competitive 60 minutes of derby action I’ve ever seen. Filled with hard hitting action and lead changes, it came down to the final minutes of gameplay. Unfortunately, Brody and her team fell short to the Queens of Pain, who were undefeated all season. But the former two time GGRD champions left everything on the track and definitely inspired others to become passionate fan of the sport.
Another wrestling related connection came at intermission: there was a performance by the all female accordion group, the Main Squeeze Orchestra. They performed television theme songs and Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” while wearing, hats, hairpieces or wrestling masks.
It was all around awesome. Check out the Gotham Girls Roller Derby website for more information. Maybe the Queens of Pain can continue their undefeated streak through another season.

Snapshots: Oh Photo Rico!

Last week, WWE’s newest tag team, Los Matadores made their WWE debut defeating 3MB on RAW. While we are happy to see the WWE put more focus on their tag team division, we noticed that the self-proclaimed Puerto Rican Devils, Primo and Epico, haven’t been seen in months! There are rumors swirling around that Primo and Epico decided to take a more behind the scenes approach and let other teams like Los Matadores have the spotlight, but we’re not sure those are true.
Nonetheless, we miss Primo and Epico. They were confident, talented and surprisingly very photogenic (Primo at least.) Here are a few photos, spotlighting the Photogetic Primo (And one of Epico) that you may not have seen before. Primo and Epico may be gone for now, but his faces will forever live on in these photos.

Snapshots: Hulk Still Rules

In Snapshots, 3MBooth searches for images to share.

Sometimes you’re just on Twitter, following @3ManBooth or the 3ManBooth Twitter list, when you see something that catches your eye. That was the case when Comedian Jonah Ray reached out to the Twitter-verse for an odd request:

What does Jonah Ray need songs from Hulk Rules for? Was he planning on psyching himself up using the stylings of Hulk Hogan and the Wrestling Boot Band? He is a music aficionado afterall, as the host of his own podcast, Jonah Raydio, devoted to spotlighting new artists. Or does he plan of comedically dissecting Hogan’s attempt a ballad through “Hulkster in Heaven” or attempts at rapping in “I Wanna Be a Hulkamaniac” (which, incidentally, samples Owen Hart’s theme music) and “Beach Patrol.”

Either way, ask Twitter about wrestling and Twitter will answer.

We want to extend our thanks as well; we have no idea what Jonah’s intended purpose was but hope to find out. If you were in attendance that night please let us know. Otherwise, we’ll have to follow Jonah’s Twitter to see if more is revealed. Or, he might mention it on Jonah Raydio or the Nerdist podcast with Chris Hardwick and Matt Mira (Matt, please bring this up on the next Hostful). While waiting, we can all listen to Jonah’s latest comedy album – Hello, Mr. Magic Plane Person, Hello – available on iTunes and Amazon. Trust us: it’s TJ Maxx, aka MY BEST FRIEND, approved.

Highlight Reel: (IM)PERFECT TRIBUTE

In Highlight Reel, 3MB will look at funny and interesting wrestling videos

Before becoming professional wrestlers, a lot them are athletes from another sport. ‘Big Cat’ Ernie Ladd, Alex Riley and Jack Swagger made names (or reasonable likenesses) for themselves in football. The Big Show and Kevin Nash utilized their height in basketball before competing as big men “where the big boys play.” Shelton Benjamin, Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle and Dolph Ziggler were wrestlers before becoming… wrestlers. The Bella Twins tested out Twin Magic on the soccer fields before perfecting it in the wrestling ring.

Speaking of perfection, there was one wrestler who seemed to be an impeccable athlete across every sport tried: Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig displayed his in-ring prowess throughout the AWA, the WWF, the WCW and the WWE, earning many championships and being a standout wrestler in all promotions. In the WWF WWE, he showed his knack for other sports through a series of vignettes. He showed off a perfect pass rating with Minnesota Viking Steve Jordan.

As if there were any way to top a perfect pass rating,  Mr. Perfect then threw the ball to himself … and caught it! Who can do that?!?

Few have tried to pay tribute to Curt Hennig’s wrestling ability, usually by doing a variation on the Perfect Plex, a bridging fisherman’s suplex pinning combination. Even Curtis Axel, son of Mr. Perfect, dedicated his first Intercontinental Title match and win to his dad. But only one person has tried to pay tribute to Mr. Perfect’s non-wrestling athletic prowess: Charlie Haas, during his impersonation phase in the WWE, threw on a blonde wig and commandeered a Dave and Busters to recreate some of these moments.

It wasn’t perfect but it was still a fitting tribute. Who among us haven’t done the gum spit / slap thing and missed?

So That Happened: 09/30/13

RAW begins with CM Punk!

The middle rope is pink again in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

After a loud CM Punk chant, CM Punk says a lot of people think that RAW thrives on unpredictability and he’s as predictable as it comes. Punk says sometimes predictability is okay and uses the examples of Paul Heyman bragging, him attacking Paul Heyman and him getting beaten down by Curtis Axel and Ryback.
