I Was There (Kinda): New York Comic-Con 2014 (#NYCC)

Just like last year, and the year before, we went to New York Comic Con to enjoy a fun-filled weekend of comics, games and cosplay!

Did we say weekend? We meant one day….Thursday

The phrase, “You can’t see it all in one day” is perfect for NYCC, because while one of the Three Man Booth members was desperately searching for an AJ Lee Pop Vinyl (He was unsuccessful), we missed all of this amazing wrestling cosplay!

I Was There: #RAWBrooklyn (10/06/14)

In “I Was There” 3MB provides a first hand account of a things we attend.

The Barclays Center has unofficially been Shield Central since TLC 2012; that’s where Rollins, Reigns and Ambrose had their first actual match in the WWE. Even though The Shield is disbanded, the Barclays Center has remained loyal. So when Dean Ambrose unleashed his “lunatic fringe” on RAW last week, we were there with him.

Ambrose was more looney than lunatic this week. He knows that Seth knows every move in the Shield play book. That’s why Dean has either been making everything up on the spot or pulling from another play book: the Bugs Bunny catalog. Dean casually appeared in the crowd next to Seth just to attack him. He left RAW, only to come back pushing a hot dog cart. He then proceeded to attack KANE and Randy Orton with ketchup and mustard!

The IWC: Ricky Thunder

3MB wants to Highlight The IWC; No Not that IWC. The Illustrated Wrestling Community

It’s an age old question: who is the best in the world? It’s one of those unanswerable questions like what’s the sound of one hand clapping or who would win in a race between Superman and The Flash? Actually, comics answered that last one. Comics answered this question too: Kyle Starks proved that Ricky Thunder – not Chris Jericho, not Daniel Bryan, not CM Punk – is the best in the world.

The Ballad of Ricky Thunder starts with our title character living the dream. He The World Champion, racking up a list of victories as long as his blonde mullet, dispatching each one with his signature Thunder strike kick. Plus he has a cool dog: a dachshund name Miss Elisabeth.

Snapshots: Roster Reveal (1989)

This weekend, the New York Comic Con takes over the Jacob Javitts Center. It’s estimated that 140,000 people will attend this year, artists and fans alike. There will be something for everyone at NYCC, including wrestling fanatics like us. Headlocked Comics will be on display in booth 475. The wrestler and wrestling fan supported comic will be a gathering point; Wrestlers like Hurricane Shane Helms and Jerry the King Lawler will be there, taking pictures and signing photos. Both contributed to the book as well The Last Territory Part 1.

But this year NYCC (also being called Super Week) is extending to the world wide web. For Headlocked, for instance, you can back Michael Kingston’s Kickstarter for The Last Territory Part 2 and receive Part 1 in the process.

You can also pick up this print Christopher Alvarez and Gisele Jobateh created. It depicts 24 Superstars from the 1989 WWF roster including larger than life legends Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man Randy Savage and Andre the Giant. It contains some of the tag team divisions finest like Bret Hart and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, The Hart Foundation; Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty, The Rockers; and Ax and Smash, Demolition. It contains some of the most colorful characters of that era: The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes, Jake the Snake Roberts, Ravishing Rick Rude, Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Also, Brutus “the Barber” Beefcake is there for historical accuracy.
