I Was There: #WWEMSG (02/27/15) aka Hulk Hogan Appreciation Night

The Divas championship was on the line as well. In a rematch from Fastlane, Paige – still upset over the way Nikki Bella cheated to win – attacked the Champion at the start of the match. #TotalPaige was non-stop until she came face to face with #BrieMode via outside the ring distraction. Then, Nikki tried to wear down our Diva from across the pond with a series of submission holds. Paige rallied, almost knocking Nikki out with a Superkick but she could not get the victory. Brie once again implored a bit of “Twin Magic,” well, not really: Brie caused the distraction (again) and Nikki was able to hit the Rack Attack for the victory. We will say this: Nikki’s strength in executing that move is devastating. Plus, she hits Alpha-Diva levels by striking a pose while hitting the Rack Attack.

Rusev was supposed to defend his US Championship but after learning that his opponent was John Cena, Rusev (and Lana) opted to not put the title on the line. Fortunately for the MSG Universe, Triple H, in his role as Chief Operating Officer, made Rusev defend his title. It was a hard hitting contest that saw Cena and Rusev try to take each other out. Rusev’s strength is deceptive. He was able to catch John Cena mid flying cross-body and counter it into a fall away slam!

3MB_WWEMSG_20150227_0096But the man who never gives up would not go down that easily. Cena recovered and retaliated. When he had Rusev weak enough for an Attitude Adjustment, Rusev grabbed the top rope and flailed his limbs wildly, inadvertantly hitting referee John Cone. That means that when Rusev tapped to Cena’s STF, there was no referee to call for the bell. That also means there was no referee when Rusev assaulted Cena with a chair. Fortunately, John Cone was recovering and able to see Rusev’s use of the foreign object. John Cena won the much, much to the delight of (some of) WWE Universe in attendance that night; however, the title can only change hands on a pinfall or submission so Rusev retained the championship.
