4. 3 Count: Tyler Breeze
On the music charts, women dominated. The top performers this year were females or female collaborations, from Beyonce to Taylor Swift with plenty on Ariana Grande thrown in the middle. The same could be said for the women in wrestling: their themes were catchy even when they were inappropriate (looking at you, Taryn Terrell’s “Hot Mess.”) that they get stuck in you head. The raised awareness of NXT brought with it some of the best themes of 2014. Sasha Banks’ “Sky’s the Limit” is almost as BOSS as she is. Charlotte’s theme, “Recognition” sounds what would happen if Ric Flair’s theme – “Also sprach Zarathustra” actually went out partying with Ric Flair! Both of the Bayley’s themes, “Boyfriend” – which made our Songs of the Summer list – and “Turn It Up” are the musical equivalent of the Diva herself: bubbly and fun. Even the newest NXT Diva made an impression upon hearing her theme. Granted, the impression we get from “Fabulous” is that it sounds like Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” but still… that’s something!
But the biggest Diva with the biggest theme isn’t one of these ladies. It’s Tyler Breeze. He is so obsessed with his image that he made his own theme! Apparently the only thing better than looking at Tyler Breeze is looking at Tyler Breeze while listening to Tyler Breeze!
But Prince Pretty is keeping a tradition alive. Tons of wrestlers have had themes that stroke their egos: Ravishing Rick Rude, Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff … heck, even Rob Conway. Shawn Michaels himself has not one but two versions of his theme about him being a Sexy Boy. And one of those versions is sung by the Heartbreak Kid himself! Keep the tradition going, Breeze!
