In the Booth: Bryan is GOOD

In the Booth are featured editorials from members of the 3MBooth Elite. This time it’s @DaveSeperson

Long hair. A gangly beard. He looks more like a lumberjack than a WWE Superstar. He doesn’t have the bulging muscles or that ‘larger than life’ stature. What he possesses is an innovative, unique style that makes you stop what you’re doing & take notice. Before becoming a WWE Superstar, he chose to travel to Japan to create a legacy & then grind through smaller promotions doing the same to make a name for himself. Upon arriving to WWE, the company took one look at his face & decided to throw a mask on him… Wait! Did you think I was talking about WWE’s hottest star Daniel Bryan? Sorry, I was discussing the “Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley… Funny how similar they compare, isn’t it? Well the other day I was having a conversation with LeKeith and it hit me: Daniel Bryan is this era’s Mick Foley and that’s good.

In any era, you have your muscle bound larger than life Superstars, from your Hulk Hogans to John Cenas to your Ultimate Warriors and your Batistas. These men have carried the WWE Championships and been at the top of the card countless times. However, you don’t have to look like a Greek God to be beloved by wrestling fans. In fact, by breaking the mold & doing things that are unique and different, you’re more likely to be remembered. Mick Foley wrestled superstars from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin to The Rock to Triple H, he main evented Raws & WrestleManias and is one of the most iconic Superstars the company has ever had. Can you tell me how many times he was WWE Champion? 3 times! For a total of 47 days! That’s it! I won’t lie: I had to look that up. At the end of the day, it didn’t matter. Mick Foley, through all his incarnations was one of the greatest Superstars that ever laced up a pair of boots. His matches have stood the test of time, from his wrestling clinic with Shawn Michaels at In Your House: Mind Games, to the classic hardcore masterpiece that took place at WrestleMania 22 against Edge. Mick Foley, Cactus Jack, Mankind, heck even Dude Love didn’t need a championship to make you realize you were entertained & watching one of the best matches of the night.

Every wrestling fan wants Daniel Bryan to have a long run as WWE Champion because he’s earned it. He’s the most popular character on WWE programming & he gets a reaction from the audience that most superstars only dream of. At the end of the day, only one person can make the decision if Bryan will get to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion again and it isn’t you or me. Whether Bryan wins the title or not, he is still entertaining fans around the world every time he is on TV and that’s really all that matters. Enjoy the ride; you’re watching one of the best runs the company has had in a long time. I bet if you were to ask the guy, Bryan Danielson, back when he was in ROH, killing himself to get to this point, “How would you feel if one day you were in the main event of Raw every week, got the biggest reaction from the crowd, but you never got to hold the WWE Championship?” I bet he would have screamed “Yes! Yes! Yes!” just like we are now.
