Unprofessional Wrestling: Steven Universe

The 3ManBooth DVR records anything with “Wrestling” in the Title or Description. Good or Bad,
We’ll Share Its Unprofessional Wrestling

One of the newest shows on Cartoon Network is Steven Universe. The premise, that the world is protected by the The Crystal Gems – Garnet (the British one), Pearl (the ballerina), Amethyst (the purple one) and Steven, an adorable goofy kid who earned his gem from his mother. Created by Rebecca Sugar, a writer from Adventure Time, it’s a mix of random adventures, positive messages and this addictive theme song.

In the episode, “Tiger Millionaire” Steven discovers Amethyst’s secret: that she uses her crystal gem to dominate as male wrestler Purple Puma in the Beach City Underground Wrestling Federation.

Steven joins Amethyst, creating the wrestler Tiger Millionaire to team with Purple Puma and go after the tag team titles. Tiger Millionaire, incidentally, looks like a cross between a Tiger and Irwin R. Schyster. No, seriously. Look:

The suspenders! The tie! The slick backed hair! Tag Team aspirations! The episode could’ve stopped there but it didn’t. Encouraged to use underhanded tactics, Tiger Millionaire pulled from the classic heel playbook.

Boo This Man: Hulk Hogan – Royal Rumble 1992 Edition

In Boo This Man, ThreeManBooth will call out someone or something that really gripes us.

The Royal Rumble is one of the most exciting events in wrestling. The premise is simple, except when it’s not: 30 Superstars (first, it was 20 Superstars; once, it was 40 Superstars) compete in an “every man (sometimes women enter too) for himself” over the top rope battle royal. 2 Superstars begin the match and the others enter in 2 minute (sometimes 60 second, sometimes 90 second) intervals. The last person in the ring (meaning both feet of all the other competitors have touched the arena floor) is the winner (except when there’s a tie). The winner earns a WWE (or WWF or World) Championship title shot at Wrestlemania (unless you’re John Cena who chose to cash in at Elimination Chamber).

3MB_WWE_RoyalRumbleLogoBut one time, the stakes of the Royal Rumble were higher than a title shot. In 1992, the winner of the Royal Rumble became the new WWF champion! That meant all the biggest Superstars entered: future legends like The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, former WWF Champions like Macho Man Randy Savage, Sgt. Slaughter and Hulk Hogan. Also, Virgil entered. Ultimately, Ric Flair, who had recently come from WCW with the World Heavyweight Championship belt, entered at number 3 and not only won the Rumble match but left the Royal Rumble as champion!

So what does Ric Flair winning have to do with with booing Hulk Hogan? Everything.

Highlight Reel: Ultimate Induction

Last week on RAW, the WWE announced that the first member of 2014 WWE Hall of Fame class is the Ultimate Warrior. The first Superstar to ever hold the Intercontinental and WWF Championships at the same time, Warrior captivated the wrestling world with the same energy that he used when sprinting to the ring. People emulated him, from his facepaint to his arm tassels, right down to his unique, sometimes rambling, promos. Still we’re excited to see him get into the Hall of Fame. How excited? YouTube user ReyFearsPsychosis captures our excitement exactly:

Okay maybe not that excited. But we hope that the Ultimate Warrior recreates his trademark sprint on his way to the podium. Hopefully, no one gets run over in the process on that day.

Snapshots: Beast of the Universe

In Snapshots, 3MBooth will search for images to share.

Brock Lesnar’s return to the WWE came with some fanfare, brawling with Mark Henry and primal screaming. That unintelligible yell may have just been Lesnar-speak for “I HAVE THE POWER!” Artist James White aka Signalnoise put the two together and realized what was going on:

Brock Lesnar dislocated the elbow and broke the arm of The World’s Strongest Man. This was just his first step. If he takes out the Big Show at the Royal Rumble, he’s even closer to becoming the Master of the (WWE) Universe. Lesnar does not have a Prince Adam side to him; he’s all He-Man. But maybe – just maybe – Paul Heyman will start wearing purple and resemble Orko.
