3MB_NXT_20150327_0102But back to the action. In addition to these match-ups, the Tag Team titles were on the line in a Triple Threat match. The Champions – Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy – took on the challengers the Vaudevillains – Aiden English and Simon Gotch – and Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, who were clearly the crowd favorite. Listen to Big Cass lead us in the new spelling of the word soft (if you can hear him).

But English and Gotch would not be outdone; they engaged in old-fashioned wrestling tactics, like isolating your opponent and doing … this:

It’s like a magic trick almost! Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Blake and Murphy were able to eke out a victory over both teams.

3MB_NXT_20150327_0126At a show like this, the term “Match of the Night” gets bandied about a lot. Almost every match at this show (looking at you, Dempsey v. Jordan) would be deserving of the crown but the one we heard in our impromptu exit poll the most was Charlotte versus Sasha Banks for the NXT Women’s title. These two wrestlers know each other so well and put on a wrestling clinic. Charlotte and Sasha were best of friends and better as rivals. Not only did they not hold back in the ring, but they fed off each other. The match came down to a battle of submissions; Charlotte applied her version of the Figure Four, complete with a bridge to elevate the angle (and the pain) of the hold:

3MB_NXT_20150327_0143but Sasha was able to fight that off. She locked in her Banks statement, a Backstabber that rolls into a crossface. Banks held on, rolling though several attempted counters, to finally get Charlotte to tap out.

3MB_NXT_20150327_0149Both women earned a standing ovation for their efforts. They more than delivered in the ring. And when Charlotte went for a post match handshake of respect, Sasha blew her off. Hopefully that means that only more matches could be in their (and our) future.
