In Highlight Reel, 3MB will look at funny and interesting wrestling videos
The Survivor Series gave birth to two ideas. The first, a traditional tag team elimination match, can spotlight a Superstar if they emerge as the Sole Survivor; this year, Roman Reigns (and his spear) earned that title. The other idea was not so much born as it was hatched: at the 1990 Survivor Series, the Gobbledy Gooker emerged from an egg near ringside; he elicited some delight but mostly confusion across the Hartford Civic Center.
At least we think the Gobbledy Gooker is a he. Through the years, there have been rumors that the Gobbledy Gooker is merely a costume worn by Superstars like Terry Taylor (from the Red Rooster to a turkey? Highly unlikely!), Hector Guerrero (because … Wikipedia? When’s that thing ever right?!?) and even former WWE Divas Champion Maryse! (Damn.)
But we believe the mascot of the Survivor Series is – on some level – real. And like the movie Ted, the fanfare around a giant turkey has died down, except for random guest appearances. Luckily, GG (that’s what his friends call him) has been gainfully employed at WWE Headquarters complete with a parking space, a cubicle, and TPS Reports.
GG even works out in the original WWE Performance Center: the Company Gym. Though his gym etiquette needs work (so many feather to clean up after) and with the exception of one “soaring” rivalry, life seems pretty good for the Gobbledy Gooker.
