In Cheap Pop, Three Man Booth Discuss Random Topics
with a Slight Historical Bend
Last week, the WWE unveiled their list of the 50 Most Beautiful People in Sports Entertainment History. Earlier, we posted Wade Barrett’s reaction to being Number 31 on the list, but another person’s rank we noticed was Number 13, “The Model” Rick Martel.

For those of you who have never seen “The Model” Rick Martel, he was a narcissistic Superstar, who carried around a novelty sized spray, which was supposed to be his brand of cologne called “Arrogance.” Martel was so narcissistic that at Summerslam 1992, he faced “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels to in an attempt to court HBK’s manager, Sensational Sherri. And if that’s not weird enough for you, both Superstars enforced a rule where neither person was allowed to hit the other in the face!

Coincidentally, this “no hitting faces” rule was brought back a few years later in an episode of Friends.
But before Rick Martel turned into Canada’s Next Top Model, he was in a tag team known as Strike Force, with WWE Hall of Famer, Tito Santana. Strike Force went on to become WWE Tag Team Champions, but they’re best remembered for three things: Solid Wrestling, Matching Tights and Girls in Cars.
In 1989, Strike Force came to an abrupt end at Wrestlemania V, when Rick Martel walked out Tito Santana, after Santana accidentally hit Martel with a flying forearm. In a post-match interview, Martel claimed Santana was holding him back in wrestling, but I don’t believe that’s the whole story. Take a look at these photos and see if you can real reason The Model turned his back on his partner.

No? How about now? |
Give up?
The real reason Rick Martel turned on Tito Santana was because Tito Santana is incredibly unphotogenic!

In every picture together, Rick Martel shows why earned that number 13 spot on WWE.com’s 50 Most Beautiful People in Sports Entertainment History. He’s definitely a model. A cologne connoisseur, not so much. But a model! Definitely. Martel must’ve gotten these photos back while injured and he just couldn’t take it anymore.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Tito Santana. El Matador is very talented. Unfortunately, the man can’t take a photo without giving off the “Chandler Face.”
Hmm. You know what? Someone on the Friends writing staff was a Strike Force fan….
