Unprofessional Wrestling: An Idiot Abroad

The 3ManBooth DVR records anything with “Wrestling” in the Title or Description. Good or Bad, We’ll Share Its Unprofessional Wrestling

Karl Pilkington, friend of Rick Gervais (co-creator of The Office and Extras), may be the most unintentionally kayfabe person in existence. Initially a radio producer for Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, their accidental pairing has resulted in a series of shows where Ricky and Stephen have been able to showcase Karl’s innate ability to speak in soundbites: The Ricky Gervais Show, An Idiot Abroad, and An Idiot Abroad 2: The Bucket List. These shows seem to center around Karl’s seemingly endless endurance of Ricky’s endless chiding chiding of Karl, commenting on either his intelligence, personality or – Ricky’s favorite target – Karl’s perfectly round bald head. At one point, Karl’s existence seemed so implausible that his Wikipedia page was the site of a detailed debate as to whether Karl was a real person or a character.
Character or not, An Idiot Abroad focuses on Karl traveling around the world to see its natural wonders like the Great Wall of China or Machu Picchu, exposing him to cultures, the self-admitted sheltered Karl would not experience otherwise. Along the way, Ricky and Stephen give Karl side-assignments designed, in Ricky’s opinion, to amuse Ricky and to irritate Karl. When Karl reaches Mexico to see Chichen Itza, Ricky decided to put Karl’s perfectly round head into a perfectly round luchador mask, complete with tights and a cape.

Now We Know Where Austin Aries Got It From
In Mexico, purchasing lucha libre gear comes with a training session. It’s like a Groupon voucher. So Karl gets trained int he basics of wrestling by a luchador who calls himself, “The Shocker.”
