So That Happened: WWE Payback 2017

Last night, WWE delivered the RAW-Exclusive Event Payback on the WWE Network. After a tough go-home show and a Superstar Shakeup, did Payback deliver? Let’s find out!

On the Payback Kick-Off Show, Enzo and Cass defeated The Club (again) and Finn Balor declared on Miz TV that he wants to be Universal Championship again. When The Miz tries to challenge Balor, he was quickly shut up.

The actual Payback show began with Chris Jericho winning the United States Championship from Kevin Owens in a solid match.

Up next was Austin Aries vs. Neville for the Crusierweight Championship. Despite this awesome move.

Austin Aries came up short, winning the match, but by disqualification due to Neville pulling the referee by the shirt.

The surprises continued with The Hardy Boyz vs. Sheamus and Cesaro for the WWE Tag Team Championship. The next surprise? Jeff Hardy’s tooth.

Despite losing a tooth, Jeff Hardy still won the match for The Hardyz!

The Hardyz celebration was short lived as they were attacked by Sheamus and Cesaro.

The only thing BROKEN here were Sheamus and Cesaro’s spirit.

And Matt Hardy…

Moving on to Alexa Bliss vs. the hometown hero. Bayley for the Women’s Championship. Bayley pulled out all stops.

And looked like she was about to win until…

Rough night for Bayley, but congratulations to Alexa Bliss for becoming the first ever SmackDown and RAW Women’s Champion.

Up next was Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton in a House Of Horrors match had to be seen to be believed…

Orton and Wyatt literally used everything until Bray Wyatt went to the arena.

We’ll catch up with them later. In the meantime, let’s watch Samoa Joe destroy Seth Rollins.

But the power of this artwork allowed Rollins to pick up the quick victory.

After Rollins’ victory, we are greeted by Bray Wyatt, who finally made it to the arena.

And so did Randy Orton!

Randy Orton defeated the fridge and resumed the House Of Horrors match with Bray Wyatt.

Until Orton was distracted by The Singh brothers.

Despite this, nothing was stopping Orton from hitting that RKO.

Post RKO, though, all bets were off. Jinder Mahal showed up to assist Bray Wyatt and give him the victory.

Now it was time for the Main Event. Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns, with Reigns making his triumphant return-

…Roman Reigns making his triumphant-

…Roman-

…Braun Strowman was victorious.

But Strowman wasn’t happy with just winning.

After Reigns was carried backstage, Strowman tried to finish the job, but lost to forward momentum.

Here is your true winner of the match: The Home Depot Boxes.

If you liked solid wrestling, Houses of Horror, or Home Depot maxes, WWE Payback had something for you. Hopefully with this show behind us, RAW can move forward in a new direction. Until then, we’ll be looking forward to Shinsuke Nakamura’s in-ring debut at Backlash!
